Call for Papers | Clean Energy Transition in Cities

The EERA Joint Programme Smart Cities (JP SC) and EERA Joint Programme e3s (JP e3s) invite researchers to contribute to the topical collection “Towards a Sustainable Clean Energy Transition in Cities: Technical and Societal Perspectives”, published in Discover Cities.

Across Europe, cities account for around 75% of global energy use and 70% of greenhouse gas emissions. While they are playing a central role in driving the transition towards climate neutrality and long-term sustainability, the path to a clean energy future remains complex.

To build a shared understanding of the systemic changes needed, the EERA Joint Programme Smart Cities and EERA Joint Programme e3s - clean Energy tranSition for Sustainable Society invite researchers to contribute to the topical collection: “Towards a Sustainable Clean Energy Transition in Cities: Technical and Societal Perspectives”, published in Discover Cities.

Contributions are welcomed across four main thematic areas:

  • Strategies for the clean energy transition in cities
  • Approaches and methodologies
  • Case studies and practical experiences
  • Technological solutions

Relevant topics include Positive Energy Districts (PEDs), renewable energy communities, urban resilience, smart grids, energy flexibility, digital twins, AI, hydrogen technologies, climate justice, and participatory governance. Contributions on topics not explicitly listed but relevant to the overall theme of the collection are also welcome.
